About Five Horsemen Nonprofit

Five Horsemen Nonprofit, Inc. (FHN) is a federally tax-exempt organization governed under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, with Public Charity Status under Section 509(a)(2), which grants contribution deductibility.

FHN was founded by Dexter Porter and Co-Founder Chris Morris, both proud alumni of the historic Frederick Douglass High School in Atlanta, Georgia — an institution long celebrated for its unwavering commitment to academic excellence and character development. Porter and Morris are distinguished members of the Frederick Douglass Class of 1984, widely regarded as one of the most accomplished and storied graduating classes in the school’s history. That class made an indelible mark on Frederick Douglass, contributing to the school’s achievement of its first National School of Excellence designation and National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence award in the fall of 1983. The Class of 1984 also helped lead the school to one of its most celebrated athletic milestones — the State of Georgia Boys 4(AAAA) Basketball Championship in the winter of 1984 — cementing their legacy as scholars, leaders, and champions.

Dexter Porter is a seasoned music industry executive, Recording Academy member, entrepreneur, commissioned United States Army officer, and chemical engineer whose career reflects a rare combination of creative vision, technical expertise, and disciplined leadership. Guided by a lifelong commitment to service and community investment, Porter founded Five Horsemen Nonprofit to create a lasting vehicle for opportunity and advocacy in Atlanta’s communities.

Chris Morris is a celebrated athletic icon whose distinguished career began on the hardwood floors of Frederick Douglass High School, where he helped lead the 1984 FDHS Boys’ Basketball team to its first-ever State 4(AAAA) Championship. Morris went on to be selected as the 4th overall pick in the 1988 NBA Draft, launching a professional basketball career that spanned more than a decade at the sport’s highest level. He is also a proud member of the world-famous Harlem Globetrotters — an organization synonymous with excellence, showmanship, and global community engagement. Morris brings to FHN the same competitive spirit, discipline, and commitment to young people that defined his legendary career on the court.

Together, Porter and Morris established Five Horsemen Nonprofit with a shared belief that philanthropy, when applied strategically, is a powerful force for social change and advocacy. FHN operates across five programmatic pillars — STEM, academic literacy, entrepreneurship, health and athletics, and the arts — serving students and student-athletes throughout Atlanta Public Schools. United by the values instilled at Frederick Douglass High School, they remain steadfast in their mission to uplift, inspire, and create transformative opportunities for the next generation of Atlanta’s leaders.

FIVE HORSEMEN NONPROFIT (ATHLETIC) PATHWAY TO LEADERSHIP PLATFORM

Sports provide children and youth opportunities to grow physically, socially, and emotionally. Studies show that children participating in organized sports are more likely to be active, hardworking students and better future workers. Kids who play sports also learn how to balance their schoolwork and athletics, which fosters a strong work ethic both on and off the court and on the field. The Five Horsemen Nonprofit goal is to build an Athletic endowment to permanently remove pay-to-play and give as many children as possible the chance to participate in and enjoy athletics.

THE FIVE HORSEMEN NONPROFIT (ARTS) OF CULTURE PLATFORM

The Arts engage students and are essential to understanding personal identity, community contexts, and global cultures. Through arts education, students develop commitment and persistence. They also acquire the skills and exercise the creativity necessary for success in today’s world. We aim to build a sustainable Arts endowment, giving as many children as possible the opportunity to benefit from and enjoy the Arts. Cultural arts, such as music, art, drama, creative writing, photography, and dance, help develop the mind and body, refine feelings and thoughts, and reflect and represent our customs and values as a society.
